Hi Friends of Little Corner Farm,
Welcome to our Blog!
We have just had a very busy weekend at the farm and started some fun new projects which we can’t wait to share with you… So we thought it best, and about time, we start our blog!
It been over a year since we purchased our farm in this township that has stolen our hearts. We were welcomed with open arms (and bottles) by our neighbours and we now welcome you all to our little corner of our world.
For those of you yet to visit us, Broke Township is a small rural town situated in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia. It is about a 2 hour drive, 160km north of Sydney (where we live most of the time). Little Corner Farm is almost always let out to holiday makers and we love seeing guests make our house their home, if only for the weekend. In between stays, we sneak a weekend or week in for ourselves.
The area now known as Broke Township was originally inhabited by the Wonnarua people, who were the traditional custodians of the land for thousands of years prior to the arrival of European settlers. The first European to explore the area was John Howe, who arrived in the region in 1820.
The name “Broke” was given to the town by Surveyor James White in 1823, after a district in Kent, England. The first European settlers in the area were predominantly farmers and graziers, who established properties along the fertile banks of the Wollombi Brook and its tributaries.
In 1838, the Broke Public School was established, which became the centre of education in the area. The town continued to grow slowly, with a post office being established in 1874 and a railway line passing through the town in 1913.
Today, Broke remains a small rural town with a population of around 600 people. The first time we visited broke we fell in love with it’s picturesque countryside, which is home to world-class wineries like Krinklewood, Margan and Winkmark Estates, olive groves as well as antique, art and homeware stores.
We are so grateful to call this little town our home away from home. We look forward to sharing our home and journey living a part time rural life with all guests past and future and all our friends.
From little things, big things grow.
